September 23, sun picks an entrance spot. Nice, but cloudy/hazy, not the best light for photos.
A final look at Vermillion Cliffs.
Same view, 20 minutes later. It's all about light, the subject is secondary.
Continuing a little bit down the road.
Leaving here means crossing the Navajo Bridge. This is the new span constructed in 1995.
The old span (1927) remains as a pedestrian viewing platform. Our Vista Crusier crossed over in 1974.
The bridges are high above the Calorado River.
A cloud formation, noticed enroute to Flagstaff, AZ.
These are the San Fransico Mountains that mark the Northern edge of Flagstaff.
Glowing golden aspens decorate parts of the mountains.
Flagstaff is home to the Lowell Observatory. It's an active astronomy facility. Clearly this is an old scope.
The wooden structure housing the scope is a geometer's delight.
Sedona, AZ is close by, but not easily reached. Nice scenery, but an uninviting town (for me).
Stopped at Meteor Crator in Winslow, AZ, because all six of us were there in the 70's.
Morning of September 25, at Petrified Forest NP.
A personal favorite place for me, because...
beautiful colorful stone (as mineralized trees) is found everywhere.
A Last look from Whipple Point, before leaving Petrified Forest NP.
